“Humans are flawed. We all have equal chance to create beauty”
Tom* was born and raised in United Kingdom. He studied sociology and he is interested in understanding underlying pattern of human behaviors. Now he works for the Think Tank health-care department. He always asks me opinions about the Chinese government and laughs at me how much my thoughts are influenced by propaganda. Through him, I learned a lot about how British social media see the Chinese government. I was born and raised in China. My grandpa was the son of a Red army soldier. It took me for a while to feel comfortable to discuss about these things with him. He told me, our president Mao was seen as an example of how ideology can cause the greatest tragedy. Followed that, he showed me a 20th century death chart that president Mao had induced even more death than “Nazi German”. President Mao did make a bad mistake later in his career. He still was a great leader and a great strategist who had took only a thousand red army soldiers from the Jinggang Mountain for a 25,000km long-term move, in order to won the battle with the nationalist force. He had made much more contribution to the Chinese citizens than his fault.
Besides his normal job, he is an amateur DJ and an improv comedian. He is very easy-going and enjoys pleasure in his life.
He articulated that: “It is widely believed in our culture that only some people are capable to create beauty, those blessed with attractiveness or a lightness of soul that means they take to art or music naturally. But in truth, we all have an equal chance to create beauty because of the many forms beauty can take.”
