How to be a True artist

My name is Lihui. I started CounterReality last year. Since then, I’ve made hundreds of paintings and more than a thousand sketches. Here are a few tips on becoming a true artist:

1.True artists are compassionate and open-hearted. The job of true artists is to solve the problems of the world, e.g. environmental issues, political problems, and moral issues. Artists make what people need, not what they like. You don’t have to make paintings to be a true artist. You are a true artist if you have the spirit to make a different to the world.

2. You have to know that you are treasured by the world. You are here to make the world more beautiful. If you see fear inside you, use your will to destroy it. You belong to the world. The world will always support you. Say things you need to say and do things you have to do. There are always people who love you and support you when you are in need.

3. You have to know that art is real but also it isn’t. Art represents your will. The world is neither as good as you think it is nor as terrible as you think it is. Art is real in the sense that it really exists in your head and you cannot get rid of it. Don’t just recycle your great thoughts in your head. If you want to be happy, go out and shape the world with your aesthetics.

4. Don’t listen to other people. You know what you are doing. People may put you down because they are confused themselves. People may disagree with you because they have different perspectives. Don’t ever live by other people’s expectations and constrain yourself by their limited imaginations. Keep doing what you need to and surround yourself with people who appreciate you. Stay connected with your cause. You can read articles online and participate local groups and communities.

5. Last but not the least, your world is not the only world. No matter how great and powerful you are, respect other people’s worlds as you respect your own.
